The Amazing Spider-man impressions *No Spoilers*

Okay people, I don’t understand all the positive attention this film is getting. I’ll start off by saying that it’s not the worst superhero movie I’ve ever seen (Catwoman) or even the worst Marvel movie I’ve ever seen (Electra), but on that note…it’s pretty bad.

Let me start by saying that Peter is the goddamn MOST confusing character I’ve seen in a movie in quite some time (He’s up there with Anakin Skywalker). If this person were real, they would be diagnosed with Autism. He cycles between being vaguely cool and lonerish, to being full-on Aspergers awkward, to being sweet and adorbs, and even branches off into being a bad-fucking-ass for a moment. The movie CANNOT decide what they want Peter to be. I’m fine with an alternative interpretation to Parker’s character, but please keep it consistant.

Emma Stone as Gwen, plays a convincing love interest to Peter and she has some good moments with him (In the hall, at the dinner table) but the kissing scenes are so groan worthy they really killed my interest in their relationship. Shame, seeing as how the relationship between Gwen and Peter takes up a huge chunk of the film and is blown up to massive importance.

I’m trying not to ruin anything so here’s just some last little nit picks. The way Peter is inspired to design the mask (IMO) devalues the persona of Spiderman and puts it up to pure chance. The film never uses the “With great power comes great responsibility” line, but instead decides to reword it into some sort of Randian decree (Something about “Moral obligations to use your good”). There is no point in rephrasing that famous line, especially into something less powerful. Also, the cops give Peter the police sketch of his Uncle’s killer, as if to say “Here kid, there’s no way you’re gonna use this to exact revenge against this guy”.

And the dumbest, most nonsensicle, and pointless moment in the entire movie…the high school chemistry lab keeps two chemicals on the same table that when mixed…create a powerful explosive…

I’ll just leave you with that, and this final recommendation. If you want your Spidey fix, just watch the originals.
